I got me a flat, lets look how it measures up to my list of wants:

Ideally I'm looking for a one bedroom flat (not a bedsit) with gas heating/cooker, small garden (shared) and off street (or quiet side-road) parking. Unfurnished, within walking distance of Uni and all for around £350 - £400 a month.

It's big (for the money), right in the centre of Southsea and a reasonable walk to Uni, however this is not the main reason I went for it. It is in a lovely old (1851) grade II listed neo-gothic style stone building with period features in the hallways and a small peaceful garden. Unfortunately there are a couple of things bringing this amount of greatness within my price range. The (private) bathroom is across the hall from the flat and the kitchen is about the size of my larder. but both of these I can live with.

Entrance to my block

Indoors

Parlour

Kitchen, I'm going to have to think very carefully how I use this space.

Bedroom, enough space for a double bed and wardrobe.

Drawing room, at the end of the corridor away from the kitchen.

Landing, standing outside front door. That's the bathroom at the end, about 12 steps from the front door.

Having the bathroom across the hall is weird other than that the place looks lovely!

It has a great 'feel' to it.

They were built as workers cottages in 1851 when, presumably, the toilet was a shed in the garden and the bath a tin one in front of the fire the current ones were added in the '30s and definitely an improvement on going in the garden :)

Sounds like good news mate, apart from living in Southsea...

Southsea's alright, at least I'm not in one of the hundreds of anonymous streets of identical terraced houses around there.

It is indeed, I shall be finding out how many people I can fit in there and still close the door if I get around to having a flat warming party.
